Set on the river Ramganga, overlooking the Gangetic planes, Moradabad known as the ‘Brass City’ or ‘Peetal Nagri’ as its often refered is the brass capital of India. The city was established in 1600 by Murad, Emperor of the Mughal Empire.
It’s from here that the Nawabs ruled from 1774-1800. Part of the duty of the Nawabs was to uphold the sovereighty of the Mughal Emprire. Many of their works and influence can still be found in the city. After 1801, Moradabad became part of the British Empire.
The city has seen consistent growth through expansion of it’s copper and brass exporting business, in combination with handicrafts and manufactured products. The city now exports to over 30 countries worldwide, including Britain, USA, Middle East, Canada and Asia. The city has become a pioneer of new technologies such as electroplating, lacquering and powder coating.
The city has many tourist attractions such as Pataleshwar Temple, Sai Temple, Raza Library and attractions a short distance from the city, making it a popular destination for tourists and travelers.
One of the food specialities recommended for travelers to the area is the Biryani. All visitors are recommended to visit the Peetal Mandi. This is the town market, and has a worldwide renown. It’s from here that you can pick all manner of items of the locality's handicraft.

Bade Hanuman Ji Temple
Nestled atop a small mount, Bade Hanuman Ji Temple tops the list of places to visit in Moradabad. Dedicated to Hanuman, it is believed that the cave below the idol of Hanuman runs through most parts of the city. Apart from the statues of Hanuman, the temple has idols of Goddess Durga, Lord Ram and his family, Sai Baba, Lord Krishna and his family, Lord Bhairo, and more. Believed to be the incarnation spot of Hanuman, the temple is ideal for all religious souls out there.

Najibudaulah’s Fort
Built in the 18th century by Ghulam Kadir, also known as Najibudaulah, Najibudaulah’s Fort is an ancient fort that has stood the test of time. Ghulam Kadir also known as Sultana Dakoo, used this fort to take shelter to avoid getting arrested by the British police. The ancient fort is an ideal spot for photographers to capture the remnants of the glorious past and for people who love getting clicked. It is considered one of the best tourist places near Moradabad if you want to witness an architectural marvel.

Jama Masjid
Established in the 17th century with a Mughal style architecture, Jama Masjid in Baqipur Village of Moradabad is situated on the banks of the Ganga River. A place of religious significance for Muslims, the mosque holds prayers five times a day and the shrine gets crowded during Ramadan and Eid. The mosque has a huge courtyard which can accommodate thousands of worshippers at a time. During the evenings, the 12 minarets at the exterior get illuminated, which is a sight to witness.

Sai Temple
Dedicated to Sai Baba, Sai Temple is a pilgrimage site where people of all faiths gather to worship Sai Baba, who, it was believed, had mystical healing powers. The devotees follow the path shown by Sai Baba, which believes in the “Oneness of God,” or in Hindi, the saying goes “Sabka Maalik Ek.” The ambience of the temple is serene for chanting holy prayers and for meditation. Pataleshwar Temple
Pataleshwar Temple is a shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, who is also known as “the destroyer.” A Shivalingam is placed at the centre of the temple’s sanctum. The unique thing about this temple is that the devotees from nearby and far-off places come to the temple every Monday to offer broom to the lord, even before offering flowers, fruits and milk. It is believed that offering a broom to Lord Shiva will cure the skin diseases of those suffering. The temple receives a huge footfall of devotees during the month of Shravan.

Rampur Raza Library
Rampur Raza Library is among the best places to visit near Moradabad for all bibliophiles and history enthusiasts, as the library has a wide-ranging collection of books on Indo-Islamic cultural heritage. An initiation by Nawab Faizullah Khan in 1774, the library houses all the books which he acquired from his ancestors. The library even has the first copy of the holy book Quran. Managed by the Government of India, the library has 60,000 books and periodicals in multiple languages, making it one of the treasure houses of knowledge.
